DES MOINES — Marshall, Minn.-based Schwan’s Home Delivery Company is utilizing new pork cuts to promote its Herb and Garlic Pork Fillet, one of the best-selling items in the company’s "Marinate on Demand" program, according to the National Pork Board.

The product was launched during the grilling season, which has been encouraging strong sales, said Scott McNair, president of Schwan’s Home Service. "We sold more than 54,000 units in the two weeks when the product was featured this spring for our ‘News at the Door’ promotion to customers," he added,

Two 6-ounce pork breasts and 4 ounces of herb-and-garlic marinade within the sealed package are featured in the Herb and Garlic Pork Fillet. Mr. McNair explained that after the marinade is pressed within the plastic, the liquid is distributed to both pork breasts within the sealed package. As a result, this process saves the consumer time and ensures a flavorful, ready-to-grill pork product with no mess, he added

Developed from the Pectoralis profundi—the pork breast, the new pork fillet is being promoted by colorful photos and a full-page ad within Schwan’s catalog. It is also being presented to millions of home-service customers during deliveries.

The Pork Checkoff and its supporting documentation sparked the Pork Fillet idea, Mr. McNair said. "It filled a gap in our portfolio, and the product has resonated with consumers," he added.

Howard Greenblatt, national foodservice marketing manager for the Pork Checkoff, said Schwan’s is the first Pork Checkoff foodservice account to use the pork breast. The pork-breast cut is also available at Costco outlets, he added.
