LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Nearly two months after receiving permission to expand its pork processing plant in Butchertown, Ky., JBS is facing opposition to its plans.

The Butchertown Neighborhood Association filed an appeal in Jefferson Circuit Court that seeks to overturn a decision by the Louisville Metro Board of Zoning Adjustment allowing JBS to expand a building that houses stunning and bleeding operations and enclose an outdoor loading area.

Before approving the expansion, local officials fined JBS $98,750 for odor and other violations in March. Permission to expand came with conditions. The board capped the number of pigs to be slaughtered at the plant, known locally as Swift. Also, the plant is subject to regular visits by city code inspectors.
