BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Arcos Dorados, the largest McDonald's franchisee in Latin America, will require its pork suppliers to submit detailed plans to limit the use of gestation crates.

By the end of 2016, Arcos Dorados said that all pork procured by the company will be sourced from producers who have documented plans to implement group housing for sows. The move is in line with McDonald's plan to source all pork for its US businesses from producers that do not use gestation stalls.

“We have great relationships and confidence in our suppliers, with a shared commitment to leading animal welfare practices," said Horacio Sbrolla, vice president of Supply Chain at Arcos Dorados Latin America.
