HONG KONG – Hong Kong has banned imports of poultry and eggs from Stanislaus County, Calif., according to news reports.

The country's food-safety department implemented the ban following a World Organization for Animal Health report of an outbreak of low-pathogenic H5 avian influenza on a quail farm.

ShanghaiDaily.com noted that Hong Kong imported 150,000 tons of frozen poultry meat, 8 tons of chilled poultry meat and 600 million eggs from the US in 2013.
