LOUISVILLE, KY. – Greeley, Colo.-based JBS USA can move forward with a proposed expansion of its pork processing plant in Butchertown, Ky., according to a Courier-Journalreport.

JBS USA plans to expand a building that houses stunning and bleeding operations and enclose an outdoor loading area. Representatives of the company said the upgrades should significantly reduce odors. The plant, known locally as Swift, recently was fined $98,750 for odor and other violations.

In granting permission to expand, the zoning board also capped the number of pigs that can be slaughtered daily. Additionally, city code inspectors will visit the plant to verify the number of hogs slaughtered.
