MCLEAN, Va. – A record crowd turned out for the Meat Industry Suppliers Alliance (MISA) Foundation's annual dinner and auction, which raised more than $93,500.

Attendees bid on items ranging from advertising packages to electronics at the annual event held in conjunction with the Food Processing Suppliers Association Annual Meeting and Conference held in Orlando, Fla. Fundraising efforts for 2014 represent a 25 percent increase over the amount raised in 2013, MISA noted.

“We are so appreciative of the support not just from our membership, but also from other industry groups, our trade publications and the processors, all of whom joined together to help us reach this milestone,” said Tom Hoffmann, chairman of the Foundation. “The MISA Foundation is fortunate to have so many friends who recognize the value of our mission.”

Seven students will receive $5,000 scholarships toward their meat sciences studies, according to MISA. Applications will be accepted through May 1, 2014. The 2015 auction is scheduled for March 20 in the FPSA Annual Conference to held at the Omni La Costa Resort in La Costa, Calif.
