SILVERTON, WV. – A fire that started in a smokehouse at Sandy Creek Farms destroyed the meat processing facility, according to local news reports. No one working at the facility was injured.

News reports state that the owner discovered the fire in the smokehouse, which is inside the plant. The fire spread while the owner went to get a fire extinguisher. The fire had spread to the roof when fire fighters arrived at the scene.


A retail store inside the building also was destroyed. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to be accidental. Sandy Creek Farms offered fresh-frozen beef, pork, free-range chicken and pre-cooked foods for pickup or home delivery.
