OAK BROOK, Ill. – McDonald's Corp announced plans to expand its "Create Your Taste" menu platform to at least 30 locations in five states, according to news reports.

The five states are Illinois, Wisconsin, Georgia, Missouri and Pennsylvania. The platform eventually will be featured in 2,000 restaurants in 2015. The move is widely viewed as the company's attempt to turn around sagging same-store sales. The company reported global comparable sales fell 2.2 percent in November, dragged down by sluggish results in each of the company’s major geographic segments.

The "Create Your Taste" platform lets customers use kiosks where they can customize their burgers. McDonald's said the chain plans to add chicken as a second meat option, allowing customers to customize their own chicken sandwiches.

USA Today reported a customized burger with a medium drink and fries cost $8.29 at a McDonald's in Laguna Niguel, Calif.
