Lamb Cooperative Inc. reported stolen a shipment of beef, lamb and other meat products. Sheriff's detectives executed a search warrant at a cold-storage facility, where they found 1,531 cases of the stolen meat. News reports said two suspects were located, but the investigation continues.
Lamb Cooperative, which has a US address in Compton, Calif., imports and distributes meat products from New Zealand, Australia and Uruguay, according to the co-op's website. The co-op offers pasture-fed beef, lamb, venison, goat and mutton. Retail customers include Sam's Club, Trader Joe's and Safeway in addition to local grocery stores and specialty butcher shops.
