WASHINGTON — The National Turkey Federation has named Dunkin’ Donuts its second Turkey Trendsetter of 2009 because of D.D.’s incorporation of turkey sausage in its Egg White Turkey Sausage Flatbread breakfast sandwich.

N.T.F.’s Turkey Trendsetter program celebrates chefs who have incorporated innovative turkey dishes into their menus. This winning sandwich was created by Chef Stan Frankenthaler, Dunkin’ Donuts executive chef and director of culinary development. It is the first breakfast dish to be placed under the trendsetter category.

Dunkin’ Donuts features breakfast sandwiches in their DDSMART better-for-you menu. The nutritional benefits of turkey inspired Chef Frankenthaler to use turkey in this sandwich.

"Turkey fits perfectly on Dunkin’s Donuts DDSMART better-for-you menu because it is lean and has strong, existing health and wellness connections," he said. "The Egg White Turkey Sausage Flatbread was an industry innovator and combines fluffy egg whites, delicious turkey sausage, spinach and melted reduced-fat Mozzarella cheese on multigrain flatbread."
