VERNON COUNTY, Wis. – Driftless Meats and More is quietly gaining a following among Vernon County, Wis., residents. The new meat processing facility and retail store officially opened in late October, offering a full selection of meat cuts to customers.

Driftless Meats is a welcome addition to the meat processing community, which lost the only small federally inspected organic certified processor in Wisconsin — Black Earth Meats. An ongoing legal battle with Black Earth Village forced the processor to shutter its operations.

Doug Wolf purchased the processing facility earlier this year. He is a hog and beef producer who has been active in the Wisconsin Pork Association, National Cattlemen's Beef Association and the National Pork Producers Council. Wolf supplies Driftless Meats with pork from his farm in Grant County. Grass-fed meat is sourced from animals produced within a 50-mile radius of the facility.

Local news reports state Wolf aspires to gain certified organic status which will enable Driftless Meats to process and package certified organic meats and sell certified organic beef to local customers.
