JAY, Okla. – Simmons Foods confirmed its poultry plant will close Dec. 22, according to news reports.

Todd Simmons, CEO, said no layoffs are planned for the 200 workers employed at the plant. Affected workers will have the opportunity to transfer to other facilities in Southwest City, Mo., Decatur, Van Buren and Siloam Springs, Ark.

Springdale, Ark.-based Tyson Foods Inc., George’s and other poultry processors used the Simmons Food rendering plant for slaughtering older birds. The company attributed the impending closure to an inconsistent supply of hens.

Simmons is exploring options for alternative uses for the facility.
