WASHINGTON – Aspen Foods, a division of Koch Meats in Chicago, announced a recall of 28,980 lbs. of chicken products on concerns the chicken may be contaminated withSalmonellaEnteritidis that has sickened six individuals, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported.

Agencies investigating the outbreak include FSIS, the Minnesota Department of Health, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. FSIS found a link between chicken Kiev produced by Aspen Foods and the illness cluster. Six individuals were sickened between Aug. 17 and Sept. 27. One individual was hospitalized. All the patients reported eating the company’s chicken Kiev before getting sick, and samples of the product collected during the investigation tested positive forSalmonellaEnteritidis with the outbreak strain, FSIS reported.

FSIS noted that on Oct. 17, the agency received evidence that linked the illnesses associated with the outbreak to a specific product or production lot. Products subject to the recall include single 5 oz. plastic packets of Raw Stuffed Chicken Breast Breaded, Boneless Breast of Chicken with Rib Meat “A La Kiev”.

The chicken Kiev was sold under the Antioch Farms brand with "sell by" dates of Oct. 1, 2015 and Oct. 7, 2015. The affected products bear the establishment number “P-1358” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The chicken products were produced on July 2 and July 8, and shipped to retail stores and distribution centers in Minnesota.
