GADSDEN, Ala. – Koch Foods, Park Ridge, Ill., plans to expand a poultry plant in Gadsden, Ala., according to local news reports.

The Gadsden City Council approved $6 million in tax abatements for the company. The company expects the project to be finished by January 2015. Approximately $5.5 million will be spent on additional equipment. The expansion will add 80 jobs. The plant currently employs more than 500 workers.


The processing capacity at the plant is approximately 2 million chickens per week. Officials with the company said the expansion will allow the facility to diversify its product line. The expansion will accommodate value-added chicken products.
