EAGLE SPRINGS, NC – A fire at a North Carolina hog farm killed 4,200 pigs housed in a nursery building, according to news reports.

Firefighters responded to a call from Deerfield Farms in Eagle Springs, NC around 11 pm on Oct. 1. 
WRAL reportedthat about 50 firefighters from four stations responded to the emergency. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

The hogs that died in the fire weighed from 14 lbs. to 45 lbs. and were valued at approximately $400,000. The building that was destroyed by the blaze was valued at $600,000.
