TRUMAN, Minn. – A massive fire broke out at a Minnesota swine farm, and least 11,000 sows and piglets died, according to local news reports.

The fire occurred Oct. 25 at Cougar Run Farm near Truman, Minn. Firefighters from at least 10 agencies took at least four hours to control the fire, according to Truman public safety officials. At least 4,000 sows and some 6,000 to 7,000 piglets were killed, while roughly 1,300 were saved. No employees were injured.


The Truman Fire Department said damages could reach into the multimillions. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
