GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Mar-Jac Poultry bought out Birmingham, Al.-based Marshall Durbin in a deal finalized Jan. 24, according to news reports. The deal includes a poultry processing plant, hatcheries, feed mills, a laboratory and distribution center. No other details of the agreement were released.

Mar-Jac processes chicken for wholesale distributors, the foodservice industry and for export. The company's plant is halal certified. Mar-Jac processes 2 million chickens per week at its Gainesville, Ga. facility, according to the company's website. The company employs 1,200 workers at its Georgia plant and 1,000 at its Mississippi operations. The Marshall Durbin acquisition adds another 1,000 workers in Alabama.
