Corn, soybean harvests behind averages

WASHINGTON – The United States corn and soybean harvests continued to lag behind five-year averages, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Crop Progress report.

Corn harvest as of Oct. 26 in the 18 major states was 46 percent completed, well behind 65 percent as the five-year average for the date. Ninety-six per cent of the crop was mature compared with 97 percent as the five-year average. USDA rated 74 percent of the crop good to excellent compared to 62 percent a year ago.

The soybean harvest in the 18 major states was 70 percent completed as of Oct. 26 compared with 76 percent as the five-year average, the USDA said.
