CFIA issues recall of raw pork

OTTAWA, Ontario – Public health agencies in Canada are investigating an E. coli
O157:H7 outbreak in the province of Alberta, and officials are scrutinizing raw-pork products as a potential source of contamination.
Alberta Health Services has confirmed 153 cases of E. coli
O157:H7 infection from July 15 to Sept. 4. A majority of the cases are in the cities of Edmonton and Calgary.
As part of the investigation, V&T Meat and Food, Calgary, Alberta, and Hiep Thanh Trading, Edmonton, Alberta, recalled raw-pork products on concerns the meat may be contaminated by E. coli
O157:H7, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported. CFIA plans to test the meat to determine if the products are linked to the outbreak.
CFIA said the pork products were distributed only in Alberta and may have been sold by multiple retailers.
