China to investigate KFC over antibiotics in chicken

SHANGHAI, China – The Shanghai Food and Drug Administration has launched an investigation into the levels of antibiotics in KFC chicken, according to The Telegraph.com.
KFC said it would cooperate with the city’s food safety authorities. The company said that in 2010 “excessive amounts” of antibiotics were found in raw chicken from two of its suppliers. The Telegraph.com reported that KFC terminated its contract with Liuhe, one of China’s largest poultry companies. McDonald’s also bought meat from Liuhe and terminated its contract in December.
