OTTAWA, Ontario – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) expanded a recall of ground beef products because those products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
The expanded recalled includes unlabeled and/or unbranded ground beef products available at retail from Aug. 24 through Sept. 16 and sold at stores CFIA has not identified, the agency said. This may include small retailers, local meat markets and butcher shops, for example.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, CFIA said.
The recall is part of an ongoing food safety investigation. XL Foods, Edmonton, Alberta, manufactured the recalled ground beef products and voluntarily recalled the products on Sept. 17. The company is owned by Nilsson Brothers Inc. which is a network of livestock-based businesses that include auction marts, feedlots and cow-calf ranches throughout western Canada.
