BOISE, Idaho – The Central District Health Department in Boise said aSalmonellaoutbreak associated with the Boise Co-Op deli has grown 250 cases from 30. The agency said the outbreak is possibly one of the largest foodborne illness outbreaks in state history.

“Preliminary test results showedSalmonellagrowth in raw turkey, tomatoes and onion,” CDHD said in a public health alert. “However, additional laboratory tests are pending.” Reports of new illnesses have slowed, CDHD noted, but the possibility remains that additional reports could be received by the department in the coming weeks. The agency has focused its investigation on food purchased from the deli after June 1.

CDHD permitted the Boise Co-Op to resume deli operations on June 19. The deli temporarily was closed during the outbreak. But an on-site inspection “… allowed health department inspectors to see the operational changes laid out by the food establishment” during a meeting with CDHC officials.
