CDC declares E. coli outbreak over
ATLANTA – An outbreak of E. coli
O157:H7 associated with a recall of beef produced by Wolverine Packing Co. in Detroit appears to be over, the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.
A total of 12 individuals from four states were sickened by outbreak strains of E. coli
O157:H7. Seven individuals were hospitalized, but no deaths were reported, CDC said.
Wolverine Packing Company in Detroit recalled approximately 1.8 million lbs. of ground beef in May. The US Dept. of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service determined the ground beef was sent to distribution centers nationwide.
Rachel Tamminga, a Michigan college student, filed a lawsuit against Wolverine Packing, claiming she was sickened by E. coli
