Family settles lawsuit over contaminated beef

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The family of Robert Danell, a 62-year-old man who died of kidney failure after becoming ill from E. coli
, settled a lawsuit against several beef companies and retailers, according to media reports.
Danell, who had Down syndrome, was one of more than 20 people sickened in a 2009 outbreak of E. coli
. He died in June 2010. His family sued Beef Products Inc., maker of lean finely textured beef, and seven additional plaintiffs. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
