WASHINGTON – Acadian Fine Foods, LLC recalled approximately 17,037 lbs. of pork stew and chicken stew products because of misbranding and undeclared allergens, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service reported. The products contain whey and soy which are not declared on the product label.
FSIS discovered the problem during a routine label review. The Church Point, La.-based company changed chicken bases, and the labels did not reflect the change in ingredients. FSIS and Acadian Fine Foods have received no reports of adverse reactions associated with consumption of the stew products, the agency said.
Undeclared allergens and misbranding also sparked a recall at Jolly Good Meat Products in Los Angeles. The company recalled 1,471 lbs. of pork meat pie products that contain milk, a known allergen that was not declared on the product label.
The products affected by the recall include:
• 12-oz. single-serve bowls of "Savoie's Cajun Singles Louisiana Pork Stew" bearing the establishment number "Est. 13587" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced on various dates from May 24, 2012 through March 21, 2013. The product packages bear "Use By" dates from May 24, 2013 through March 21, 2014.
• 12-oz. single-serve bowls of "Savoie's Cajun Singles Louisiana Chicken Stew" bearing the establishment number "P-13587" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced on various dates from June 6, 2012 through Feb. 25, 2013. The product packages bear "Use By" dates from June 6, 2013 through Feb. 25, 2014.
Acadian Fine Foods distributed the products for retail sale in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
A routine label review also uncovered the problem at Jolly Good Meat Products, according to FSIS. Milk is a sub-ingredient of margarine used in the product. The margarine was listed on the product package, but milk was not. There have been no reports of adverse reactions associated with the products.
The products subject to recall are 7-oz. packages of “Jolly Good Melton Mowbray Brand Pie” bearing the establishment number “Est. 6216” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The packages contain two pork pies. The products were produced on various dates from Nov. 8, 2012 through April 24, 2013.
The products were distributed to restaurants and distributors in California.
