Undeclared allergens and misbranding led to the recall.

WASHINGTON – Nestle Prepared Foods in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, announced a recall of approximately 26,400 lbs. of beef and pork products because the items contain eggs, milk, soy and wheat, known allergens which are not declared on the product label, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) reported.

The frozen, not-ready-to-eat (NRTE) pork and beef Hot Pockets were produced on Sept. 21, 2016, Jan. 10, 2017 and Jan. 13, 2017. The affected items include:

  • 2,400-lb. bulk packages of “Nestle Hot Pockets BBQ Burger Bites.”
  • 16,800-lb. bulk packages of “Nestle Hot Pockets 3 Cheese Bacon Bites.”
  • 7,200-lb. bulk packages of “Nestle Hot Pockets Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Snack Bites.”

The products were donated to a charity and the product was further distributed to a food bank in Missouri, FSIS said. The items may have been repackaged and further distributed and sold to additional food banks in Missouri. The products do not have the USDA mark of inspection and do not identify the ingredients.

There have been no confirmed illnesses or adverse reactions reported in connection with these products. Personnel from the Office of Investigations, Enforcement and Audit Compliance discovered the problem during routine in-commerce surveillance activities, FSIS said.
