Freiberger USA to acquire Richelieu Foods

Richelieu is one of the largest producers of private label frozen pizza and deli pizza in the United States. 
MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. – Freiberger USA Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Südzucker Group, has agreed to acquire Richelieu Foods Inc. in a transaction valued at $435 million. Based in Braintree, Massachusetts, Richelieu Foods is a leading producer of private label frozen pizza and deli pizza in the United States.

In addition to pizza, Richelieu makes sauces and dressings for retail grocery and food service customers across the United States. The company has nearly 900 employees at five US production sites, making approximately 105 million pizzas and nearly 9 million cases of pourable sauces and dressings a year. The company had annual sales of $325 million in fiscal 2016.

Richelieu Foods was acquired by private equity firm Centerview Partners in 2010. The pizza maker previously was owned by Brynwood Partners.

Freiberger Group is a producer of frozen and chilled pizza as well as pasta dishes and snacks with a focus on private label. The company has about 2,600 employees at six European sites and makes approximately 3 million pizzas a day. Freiberger is part of the Südzucker Group, a Mannheim, Germany-based company with interests in sugar, functional ingredients, chilled/frozen products and fruit.
