The cured ham from southwest France will launch at the Summer Fancy Food Show.
NEW YORK – Bayonne Ham is known in Europe for its melt-in-your-mouth quality, and the Bayonne Ham Council is hoping the charcuterie will have the same effect on the palates of Americans. The council debuted Bayonne Ham at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York.
The cured ham is made in the southwest of France. In 1998, Bayonne Ham became the very first food product to be awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, a designation granted in the European Union to protect and promote the names of high-quality agricultural products and food items such as wine, cheese and ham, among other products.
The Bayonne Ham Council has planned nationwide activities, with key campaigns on the West and East coasts. The council’s goal is to dedicate one quarter of overall international exports to the US by the year 2020.
