SMITHFIELD, Va. – Smithfield, a unit of Smithfield Foods, is making an attempt to enter the record books. To kick off National BBQ Month in May, Smithfield will be attempting to set the Guinness World Record for the Largest Grilling Lesson on April 27 at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, in Kansas City, Missouri.

The attempt will be led by renowned pitmasters Chris Lilly and Kevin Kolman. In addition, Kansas City Chiefs’ Defensive End Chris Jones will be joining the pitmasters to help make history.

According to Guinness World Records, the requirements for this record are:

  • This record is for the greatest number of people attending and participating in a barbecue/grilling lesson at a single venue.
  • This record is to be attempted by a group of unlimited size.
  • This record is measured by the number of people who actively participate in the lesson.

Smithfield is hoping for at least 250 people to participate.
