Todd Smith, president and CMO of Sonic, plans to resign March 9.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Todd Smith, president and chief marketing officer of Sonic Corp., plans to resign from his role, effective March 9. Smith, who joined the company in 2012, is leaving to pursue an entrepreneurial opportunity outside of the quick-service restaurant industry, according to the company.

“In Todd’s nearly five years at Sonic, he shifted our marketing strategy to deploy digital communications both on-lot at Sonic and off-lot through media channels,” said Cliff Hudson, CEO. “We thank Todd for the numerous contributions he has made to the brand and wish him great success in the future.”

A search is under way to fill the chief marketing position. In the meantime, Smith’s responsibilities will be allocated among current members of management, the company said.
