A&W opens new stores, continues with same store growth

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A&W Restaurants continues to open new stores across the US and boasts a 24 percent increase in same-store sales since it was acquired by Yum! Brands in 2011. As a part of its holiday promotions, the chain is introducing a limited-time offer for its Spicy Papa Burger and Peppermint Treats. Both will be available through Dec. 25.
“Guests really like how we have taken our ‘All American Food’ menu and improved both its quality and flavors,” said Sarah Blasi, director of marketing. “This limited-time offer is a great example of how we are rebuilding the A&W brand by giving familiar, favorite foods fresh, contemporary tastes.”
The new Spicy Papa Burger is made from two beef patties, totaling 1/3-lbs., between a toasted bun with two slices of melted American cheese, tomato, onion and lettuce. A&W’s Spicy Papa Sauce, which is usually only available with its Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders, is added to the burger along with jalapeños to add some extra heat.
The chain’s LTO Peppermint Treat is a new soft-serve Peppermint Polar Swirl made with Oreo brand cookies.
In 2016, A&W opened 13 new US restaurants, and two additional stores are expected to open by the end of December. Twenty additional locations are scheduled to be opened in 2017. The chain currently has approximately 1,100 franchised locations in 10 countries, with more than 600 franchises in the US.
