OTTAWA, Ontario – Etobicoke, Ontario-based Tre Rose Bakery expanded a voluntary recall of sliced deli meat as part of an ongoing foodborne illness investigation, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported. There has been one reported Listeria monocytogenes-related illness associated with the investigation.

The most recent recall includes ham, roast beef, corned beef and cooked chicken. CFIA said the deli meats were sold from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, and might have been incorporated into sandwiches and other products made in-store. On Sept. 28, the bakery recalled sliced turkey and chicken on concerns of Listeria contamination.

CFIA is advising consumers to discard or return the affected products. Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled, but the pathogen can make people sick. Symptoms of listeriosis can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women are especially at risk because the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth.
