WASHINGTON – The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Dept. of Agriculture reported that Algona, Washington-based 502 Boundary Blvd., formerly known as Fletcher’s Fine Foods Ltd., launched a recall of approximately 8,694 lbs. of ham products on concerns the products may be contaminated by extraneous materials.

Sofina Foods Inc., a London, Ontario, establishment produced and packed the Black Forest ham products, and exported the items to the United States on July 21, FSIS reported. Sofina Foods is privately owned and manufactures and distributes further-processed pork, beef and poultry products for retail and foodservice customers in Canada, the US and Japan. The Canada-based company’s diversified product portfolio includes the Fletcher’s, Cuddy, Quality Meats and Vienna brands in addition to an established private-label business.

A retailer contacted 502 Boulevard after a consumer reported finding various pieces of what appeared to be rubber material embedded in Black Forest ham, FSIS said. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.

Affected items include 6.02-lb. vacuum-sealed packages containing one “Fletcher’s Fine Foods CLASSICS Black Forest Brand Ham with Natural Juices.”

The boneless, ready-to-eat ham products were produced on July 18, 2016. The products subject to recall bear “Product of Canada” and “Est. #337” on the label. The products bear packaging code 16 OC 2016. FSIS said the product was only distributed to Costco and Sam’s Club establishments and distribution centers in Alaska, Utah and Washington State.
