AURORA, Ill. – OSI Group announced on Aug. 8 its acquisition of Baho Food, a Dutch manufacturer of convenience foods, deli meats and snacks serving the foodservice and retail segments, for an undisclosed amount.

David McDonald, president and COO of OSI Group said the deal, which is subject to government approval, allows OSI to grow its business in Europe.

“The company’s portfolio of products and brands complements OSI’s current processing strengths while broadening our capabilities to best serve the evolving needs of our customers,” McDonald said in a statement.

For nearly 60 years, Baho has developed five subsidiaries with processing plants in Germany and the Netherlands. The five companies — which include Gelderland Frischwaren, Vital Convenience, Henri van de Bilt, Bakx Foods and Q Smart Life — serve customers in 18 European countries.

According to OSI, John Balvers, Baho Food’s managing director and his team of managers will remain part of the business and work with OSI officials to develop a growth strategy for the newly combined companies. He said the acquisition will mean offering customers a wider variety of products and services.

“With our combined strengths we will be even better able to support our customers in realizing their strategy and offer them a broader product portfolio,” Balvers said. “This transaction will accelerate our growth strategy and support us in jointly realizing our goals.”
