Hillshire has tried out a new modern look in its office including treadmills for employees.

CHICAGO – A sharp contrast to Tyson Foods Inc.’s more traditional and established headquarters office and Discovery Center in Springdale, Arkansas, the office of its subsidiary, The Hillshire Brands Company, based in Chicago, is designed with an ultra-modern flair, complete with an open floorplan, trendy office furniture, exposed ceilings and brick-accented walls. Its top floor includes an employee-friendly room complete with a big-screen TV, pool table, comfy leather chairs and a scenic outdoor patio on the roof. Another perk offered to workers is the option to work at one of two treadmill desks. Employees can sign up to walk at the desks for 30-minute increments during their workday.

A spokeswoman for the company said the treadmills provide a different work environment and they reportedly improve metabolism and heart health. “We’ve also heard they help to improve focus and increase productivity,” she said. Tyson has no plans to expand use of the walking workstations in the Springdale office.
