Springer Mountain Farms recently will be featured in an upcoming issue of Cooking Light.
ATLANTA- Out of the top 12 chicken brands currently on the market, Cooking Light magazine’s blind taste test has recognized Georgia-based Springer Mountain Farms its “Best Tasting Bird” award.
The study compared boneless, skinless chicken breasts, the cut most purchased by Cooking Light readers. The award will be the subject of a feature in the magazine’s July issue. Labeling bias was eliminated by blindfolding taste testers and ratings were based on a scale of 1-5. All chicken was poached to 160 degrees for consistency.
The test was conducted to help consumers with the array of products in the market with confusing claims from organic to free-range to pasture raised. Springer Mountain farms won with a score of 3.4 and comments from taste-testers such as "good mellow flavor; meaty yet tender; and slices well."
Springer Farms is a family owned operation in Mt. Airy, Georgia, and raises 100 percent antibiotic, steroid and hormone free chickens on family-owned farms. Chickens are raised on pesticide-free, vegetarian diets. The farm was the first to be recognized by the American Humane Association for the humane treatment of chickens.
