McDonald's tests fresh, not frozen beef patties

OAK BROOK, Ill. – McDonald’s Corp. confirmed the chain is testing fresh beef patties at select locations in the Dallas, Texas, area, however the company warned against drawing any conclusions about a possible broader roll-out.
“The test is limited to the patties that are used on the quarter pounder so that’s the Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Bacon Clubhouse and the Homestyle Burger, which is a regional burger in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area,” the company said in an e-mail.
A shift to fresh beef would be significant for McDonald’s which uses frozen beef patties at its restaurants. McDonald’s said 14 kitchens are participating in the test.
“Like all of our tests, this one too is designed to see what works and what doesn’t within our restaurants by considering the operational experience, consumer response, price points and other important information which may inform future decisions,” the company said. “It’s very premature to draw any conclusions from this test.”
McDonald’s most recently tested garlic fries at a few locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The product sold out in less than two weeks.
The chain also is testing the “Grand Mac” and “Mac Jr.” — two different sizes of Big Macs — at restaurants in central Ohio and Dallas.
