GREENWOOD, SC – Carolina Pride Foods, Inc. announced the company is discontinuing production and sale of fresh pork tenderloins and loin cuts.

The company said production of hot dogs, bacon, sausage, boneless hams, cocktail smokies and lunch meats will continue.

“Carolina Pride has long been a leader in the packaged and manufactured food business and the change in products offered will allow the company to better grow its business for the future,” the company said in a statement posted to its website.

Formerly known as Greenwood Packing, Carolina Pride began as a small, family owned and operated sausage producer in 1920, according to the company’s website. The company currently employs more than 900 workers at a processing facility in Greenwood.

Is this the reason you all stop processing that pickled souse meat because it was so good and I miss it. People from up North come way to the South just to purchase this meat. Please find another way.

I live in southwest Louisiana and used to purchase the breakfast sausage in a 1 pound roll without MSG in it because my daughter could not have that product in her food. It was a very good product but was told that it has been discontinued . It was in a yellow package. Is there a reason that product was discontinued . Thank you

I bought two packs of your bacon around Thanksgiving and my family loved your bacon and so did I. I have search every Walmart and other grocery stores in my town for the 12 oz packs with no luck. My question is: When will Walmart have more of your bacon? Thanks for making such a wonderful tasting product.

I absolutely love Greenwood Packing's sausage but haven't been able to find it in years. Now I learn that Carolina Pride bought them out. I just hope CP didn't change their recipe for sausage because GP's sausage was as close to real country home-made as you could get. Now that I know I will try Carolina Pride's sausage. I hope it is the same as before. :)

I am going to really miss this brand of sausage. My whole family loved it. I am sure that there are thousands of others who say the same. It was a good product that gone by the way side. How sad.

I have more of a question than a comment or one tied to the other. As a South Carolinean, your products have been a staple of mine for many a year. Recently in my district (20735), the one food chain has not stocked the Carolina Pride hot dogs/ wieners as previously (Shoppers Food). Do not if that is a permanent position that they have arrived , not certain. The thick sliced Bologna which is unbelievable cannot be purchased within a 200 plus miles radius or so. If I am incorrect , please inform me of the nearest location that I can achieve purchase of these items? More importantly, why is it that you do not , or will not have online shopping for consumers like myself? I am certain you would be pleasantly surprised as to the surge of sales that would keep you well afloat of overhead. Please consider this as a real important question/comment. Thank you in advance

Your article makes everything sound so benign, but what is the actual impact on the area? I know there were many, many layoffs at the plant. I'm sure it was done at the last minute, so workers had no time to plan how to get by without an income. The owners say there will be little impact on the working community, but they have their little ivory tower for insulation from the effects.
