WASHINGTON – According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, it’s going to be another banner year at the ballpark when it comes to hot dog consumption. The NHDSC estimates that baseball fans will eat more than 19.4 million hot dogs and over 4.3 million sausages during the 2016 Major League Baseball season.

“There are challengers galore, but hot dogs remain king of the concession stand,” said NHDSC President Eric Mittenthal. “From childhood through old age there are two things guaranteed to put a smile on your face: baseball and hot dogs. It’s the perfect combination.”

Los Angeles Dodgers fans are the early favorites, expected to scarf down the most dogs, totaling more than 2.6 million—a jump of more than 100,000 from last year.

The other top 5 consuming venues for hot dogs include the home stadiums for the New York Yankees (1.55 million), the Cleveland Indians (1.25 million), the Texas Rangers (1.21 million) and the Chicago Cubs (around 1 million).

For sausages, the projected champs are the San Francisco Giants who plan to beat out the land of bratwurst in the Milwaukee Brewers, the defending champions. The St. Louis Cardinals’ spectators are expected to eat 400,000 sausages, and the Boston Red Sox fans are moving into the third place with 327,500 sausages. The Brewers now drop to fourth with 280,000 sausages.
