Menu test is a limited-time offer in Atlanta.
OAK BROOK, Ill. – Will a third time be the charm for McDonald’s Mighty Wings?
McDonald’s re-introduced the fried, bone-in chicken wings as part of a menu test at more than 285 stores in the Atlanta metro area, a company spokeswoman confirmed in an e-mail to MEAT+POULTRY. The limited-time offering is available until mid-June.
McDonald’s first launched Mighty Wings nationally in 1990, but removed them from the menu in 2003. Mighty Wings reappeared in 2013 in two varieties, “drummettes” or a “wingettes,” lightly breaded and seasoned with cayenne or chili pepper. Mighty Wings were sold in three, five, and 10 pieces with prices starting at $2.99.
The return of Mighty Wings is the latest in a series of product tests. For example, the company recently announced it is testing Chicken McNuggets made using a simpler recipe and no artificial preservatives. Also, McDonald’s began testing the “Grand Mac” and “Mac Jr.” in central Ohio and Dallas.
