Tyson Fresh Meats to add jobs in Council Bluffs

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., the beef and pork subsidiary of Springdale, Ark.-based Tyson Foods, announced that its Council Bluffs-based case-ready beef and pork plant will hire around 60 additional workers and add new lines for the production of pork chops and roasts.
The Council Bluffs plant produces packaged beef and pork cuts, including steaks, chops, roasts and spareribs for sale to retail customers.
Hiring will begin immediately for general maintenance and labor, material handling, and refrigeration, as well as various support positions in quality assurance.
“We’re excited to create more jobs in Council Bluffs,” said Doug Griffin, complex manager at the Council Bluffs facility. “We’re pleased to be a part of this community and fortunate to have a great workforce to support our plant operations.”
Tyson Foods acquired the Council Bluffs plant in 2001. The facility currently employs about 1,100 people, generating an annual payroll of more than $36.8 million. The case-ready plant is one of two Tyson plants in Council Bluffs. The other facility is a prepared foods plant which produces dry sausage and pepperoni and employs 130 people.
The company also operates a bacon plant in Omaha, Neb., that employs 880 people.
