Tyson Fresh Meats announces promotions

SPRINGDALE, Ark. – Sheldon Phillips was recently named vice president of value-added sales for Tyson Fresh Meats, a unit of Tyson Foods Inc.

Phillips will oversee production and sales of products such as Tyson Crafted Creations and Reuben Brand corned beef in addition to individually-cut steaks and chops for foodservice.
Before joining Tyson Fresh Meats in November 2013, Phillips spent 15 years in various posts at OSI Industries. He started at OSI while working on a food science degree from Utah State Univ. Later, he worked for Quantum Foods for seven years as director of protein procurement and vice president of operations and supply chain. He served as president of the Chicago service center of Tyson Fresh Meats before accepting his new role.
Dan Brooks has been promoted to vice president and general manager of beef enterprise where he will oversee the company’s beef business, including revenue, procurement and operations.

Brooks brings more than 30 years of experience to his new role at Tyson Fresh Meats. Before joining the company, Brooks was a quality control inspector at IBP inc.’s Dakota City beef plant beginning in 1982. Tyson Foods acquired the company in 2001, and Brooks has since served in numerous management roles in beef sales and operations. Prior to his promotion, Brooks was senior vice president of beef production operations and, more recently, senior vice president-hides and tannery margin management.
Brooks is a native of Sioux City, Iowa and is a graduate of Morningside College with degrees in business administration, history and political science.
Dakota Dunes, SD-based Tyson Fresh Meats is the beef and pork division of Tyson Foods. The unit includes seven beef plants, six pork plants, three case-ready meats facilities and a specialty meats plant. Tyson Fresh Meats also owns The Bruss Company, a producer of steaks and chops for restaurant chains.
