The McDonald's Quarter Pounder is about to get bigger.
OAK BROOK, Ill. – Where’s the beef? In the “new” McDonald’s Quarter Pounder, according to CNBC. The news agency reports that, according to an internal document it obtained, McDonald’s is beefing up the Quarter Pounder, literally, to increase burger sales.
The chain will roll out a new patty in July that weighs 4.25 oz. before cooking and also has a different shape.
The current Quarter Pounder weighs 4 oz. pre-cooked and shrinks to about 2.8 oz. after cooking. In the document, CNBC reported that McDonald’s also details “new assembly” methods for the burgers, including more visible searing on the meat. The document said the change to the patties will "improve the taste, texture and appearance of the burgers" and the meat will “retain more moisture resulting in a juicier and more flavorful burger.”
"As (CEO) Steve Easterbrook has shared, we're always innovating around McDonald's food, drinks and restaurant experience based on customers' preferences, and that includes hotter food and reviewing cooking procedures, and we'll share more details soon," the company told CNBC.
Restaurant sales at McDonald’s are down 2.4 percent this year. McDonalds acknowledged that the number of its US locations is shrinking.
