McDonald's returns premium hamburgers to its menus with the launch of its Sirloin Third Pound burgers.
OAK BROOK, Ill. – McDonald’s Corp. is serving up a trio of sirloin burgers as the company works to improve consumer perceptions about the quality of McDonald’s food.
The “Sirloin Third Pound” burgers are the biggest hamburger patties the company has served since removing its line of Angus Third Pounder burgers from menus in 2013. The Angus burgers were some of McDonald’s most expensive offerings at $4 to $5. McDonald's phased out the premium burger to offset the higher cost of beef by promoting its chicken products while trying boost product innovation.
The new sirloin burger line-up includes the Steakhouse Third Pound, with sautéed mushrooms and peppercorn sauce; The Bacon & Cheese Sirloin Third Pound with bacon, white cheddar and other toppings; and the Lettuce & Tomato Sirloin Third Pound.
The Sirloin Third Pound burgers are a limited-time offering and will sell at company-owned stores for $4.99. Franchisees will be free to set prices for the premium burger.
