The Maschhoffs gain two sow farms

CARLYLE, Ill. – The Maschhoffs acquired two Indiana sow farms, the company announced July 28. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The farms are in Morristown and Crawfordsville, Ind. Both farms are capable of housing 7,500 sows. Thirty people work at the two facilities, which are affiliates of JBS United Inc.
“We are excited about this strategic transaction, which materialized due to our long-standing relationship and partnership with JBS United, Inc.,” said Jason Logsdon, CEO for The Maschhoffs. “We look forward to integrating these farms and their employees into our operations.”
JBS United, based in Sheridan, Ind., specializes in animal health and nutrition. The company employs 325 individuals and has annual sales of more than $500 million.
The Maschhoffs is the largest independent pork producer in the United States with approximately 208,000 sows and more than 450 production partners across the Midwest. A subsidiary of the company sells pork products to retailers, processors and foodservice operators under the Maschhoff Family Farms label.
