Grand Island union ratifies labor agreement

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 293 ratified a new five-year contract with JBS USA, Greeley, Colo. The new agreement will cover more than 2,600 workers at the beef processing plant in Grand Island.

Workers have ratified contracts in Worthington, Minn. UFCW Local 7 reached a tentative agreement with JBS USA in Greeley, while contract negotiations are ongoing in Souderton, Pa. and Louisville, Ky. Union members in Omaha, Neb. will begin negotiations in the coming months.

The agreement includes, among other benefits, a $1.80 hour pay increase over the five-year term of the agreement; a 60 cents per hour increase in the first year to be paid retroactively to the original contract expiration date of Sept. 29, 2013. In Grand Island, JBS agreed to establish a primary health-care clinic and retain the current vacation and 401k plan.
