New processing plant for Superior Farms

DIXON, Calif. – Superior Farms plans to expand the company’s lamb production and reduce its carbon footprint with a new processing plant in Dixon, Calif.
The company intends for the plant to make use of green technologies. The new plant will be built next to the current facility, which will remain operational until the new construction is complete.
“We are “right-sizing” this facility,” said Shane MacKenzie, vice president of operations. “Meaning, we’re building the plant to be more efficient and appropriate for the number of livestock coming through today. And we’ve used some of the best experts in the field to help design something that makes sense — our own employee owners who work the line every day and know it better than anyone.”
Officials with Superior Farms said the new plant will leverage the best in ergonomics, natural lighting and wind power. Water conservation technologies will reduce water use by an estimated 30 percent. The company expects the eco-friendly technologies to reduce Superior Farms' total energy consumption by 45 percent.
The new facility will cover approximately 50,000 sq. ft. and will include several processing rooms, refrigerated coolers and freezer space, employee welfare areas, training rooms, warehouse and distribution docks, livestock yards and office space. The plant will have state of the art, energy efficient packaging equipment, according to the company.
