AMI honors meat, poultry plant worker safety

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The American Meat Institute recognized 135 meat and poultry plants
for high levels of worker safety performance. AMI presented the awards during the AMI 2014 Conference on Worker Safety, Human Resources and the Environment in Kansas City.
The Award of Honor was presented to 31 plants, while 49 facilities received the Award of Merit. The Award of Commendation went to 31 plants, and the Certificate of Recognition went to 24 plants.
“Worker safety progress is one of our industry’s greatest success stories. During the last 19 years, injury/illness rates in the US meat industry have improved by nearly 80 percent.” said Greg Benedict, AMI chairman and president and CEO of American Foods Group. “The rate of injury and illness in the meat and poultry industry continues to fall — and this is no accident.”
