BLACK EARTH, Wis. – Black Earth Meats officials plan to fight an order by local officials of Black Earth Village forcing the processor to move its slaughter operations out of the village, according to local news reports.

Black Earth Meats offers on-site custom processing of beef, pork, buffalo, elk, farmed deer, sheep and goats, according to the company’s an organic meat processor. The company’s meat products include grass fed organic beef, chicken and pork.

The Black Earth Village Board voted Dec. 10 to give the processor 120 days to submit to the board a plan to move the slaughter facility, which currently sits in the middle of the village. Officials said the company has outgrown its current site. The company must present a plan to move or face a lawsuit.

But Bartlett Durand, Black Earth Meats managing partner, said the company's plan will include requiring the board to pay $1.3 million toward a new plant.
