Firefighters contain weekend fire at Tyson plant

TEMPERANCEVILLE, Va. – Firefighters were able to quickly control a fire that broke out at a Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Temperanceville, Va. The fire started in an air return unit on the roof of the plant around midnight Sunday.
“Emergency personnel responded and there were no injuries,” said Worth Sparkman, a Tyson spokesman. “Damage was contained within the unit and did not affect the roof. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.”
Firefighters were on the scene for less than an hour putting out the flames, according to local news reports. The plant was built in 1968 and makes fresh tray pack chicken, Sparkman said. Roughly 1,200 employees work at the plant.
